Why should I choose home care?

Home care helps keep families together. Everyone enjoys the comfort of our residences and the joy of being with our loved ones. Home care is very important in times of illness when families want to be near one another for support. Many risks, such as infection, or falls caused by being in unfamiliar surroundings are eliminated or minimized when care is provided in the home.

Is all home care the same?

Home care is best provided by reputable service providers who have properly registered their business operations. Independent home care providers may advertise their services in the classified ads or rely on word of mouth referrals. No matter the source of the independent caregiver, there are implications surrounding hiring an independent that should be considered before you secure a  relationship with that person.  If you secure an independent to provide in home care, you are now the employer and are now responsible for making all the correct deductions, and submissions with regards to taxes and WSIB premiums.  In addition, it is important to ensure that your independent provider has met the proper education requirements and completed the necessary background criminal checks.  On the surface an independent provider can be attractive because they may offer lower hourly rates but be aware that lower rates does not always translate to a more efficient or highest quality, care solution.  The family of caregivers at Blue Sky Personal Support Workers are hired because they are found to be the most skilled, professional, caring, and compassionate PSWs in our community. Most importantly, you the client don’t have to worry about interviews, background checks, and reference validation. All that is done by Blue Sky Personal Support Workers prior to you receiving home care services. Blue Sky Personal Support Workers also strives to ensure the same caregiver (PSW) provides the majority of service so the client doesn’t have to endure a constant stream of different faces through their home. This not only ensures consistent care but also preserves the dignity of our clients.

Can I afford home care?

Home care services provided by Blue Sky Personal Support Workers are purchased by the client. All financial arrangements are made in writing and a copy is retained by the client. There are a number of situations in which clients may qualify for package discounts. We can assist clients in designing a care package that best suits their needs at a price they can afford. If clients have benefit coverage through an insurance company we can assist with claim submission. When deciding on whether to receive home care, other living situations available to seniors should be evaluated.  Long  term care settings are designed for people who require nursing care, personal care, and supervision within a secure setting on a  hour basis.  Retirement residences charge base rates in excess of $1500 per month and offer services on an a-la-cart basis which can increase the monthly rates substantially. Supportive housing (small apartment setting which offers minimal to moderate care), or group homes are based on market rent for similar apartments and can range from $1500 to $2100 per month. This is not affordable for many which results in family members assuming responsibilities for meeting the personal care and supervision needs of their elderly parents. Because many families now have both adults working outside the home, gone are the days when an elderly parent can call an adult child and get the help they need swiftly. Many people find it difficult to be there for ageing family members because the needs of their own children and jobs are preventing them from helping as much as they would like to. Most persons requiring home care prefer to stay in their own place of residence surrounded by their own special mementos and furnishings. Blue Sky Personal Support Workers goal is to assist clients maintain their independence for as long as possible.

What about emergencies and 24 hour service?

Blue Sky Personal Support Workers will provide services on time according to the schedule set up according to the clients preferences. But when situations arise outside of that schedule Blue Sky Personal Support Workers can offer emergency service on short notice. We will make every effort to meet our clients needs no matter the time of the day or the day of the week.

How quickly can I initiate services for me or my loved ones?

Help is just a phone call or email away. All calls will be returned withing 24 hours and a home visit can be done in most cases within 48 hours. Once you have decided that our services are what you need then we can initiate services immediately. Short or long term services are available and we will make every effort to accommodate your preference with respect to day and time of your visits.

Is my home as safe as it could be for me?

Each and every one of Blue Sky Personal Support Workers clients will receive a complementary in home assessment before home care begins. This will identify any areas which may need to be addressed to ensure the safety of the client and the caregiver. Areas like loose carpeting which could cause a fall or loose handrails on the stairs will identified. Blue Sky Personal Support Workers will work with the client and ensure that areas of concern are taken care of to prevent unnecessary accidents. After all, our goal is to help you stay in your home as long as possible and teach skills needed to maintain your independence.

Will I receive written statements or invoices for services purchased?

Blue Sky Personal Support Workers staff will sit down with each client prior to services being conducted and complete a service contract with the client. This contract will include the details, prices, dates, and type of service being agreed upon. The client  or the provider can make changes to the service contract at any time provided 30 days notice is provided by either party. At which time a new contract can be drawn up or the existing one amended to address  the client’s changing needs.  All clients will receive invoices and official receipts upon payment including all details about services provided and the associated costs.

Will my caregivers be qualified?

All Blue Sky Personal Support Workers have received their certifications through recognized educational institutions. They are carefully screened to ensure they meet the company’s requirements which includes Vulnerable Sector Screening, Criminal Records Checks, vaccinations must be up to date including hepatitis and the flu shot, First Aid and CPR qualified, and WHMIS trained (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems).  Once it has been established that the caregivers meet the technical requirements, they are carefully interviewed and selected to ensure they have a professional, caring, and compassionate personality. Only the best suited PSWs are able to join our family of caregivers.

Will my information be kept private?

All client information is kept confidential and secure. At no time are names or address of other clients discussed with  persons. At no time are client lists or information shared with outside sources without the written consent of the client. All clients of Blue Sky Personal Support Workers can expect to be treated with respect and courtesy. Blue Sky Personal Workers make a promise to strive to ensure the client’s dignity is preserved at all times.
